Application Process

Starting the Application

How do I begin the application process? 

The online application is a single application for both membership and loan and should only take 10-15 minutes to complete. AdelFi wll send an email confirming that we have received your membership and loan application. You do not need to apply for membership separately.

Who is eligible to apply?

Anyone who has a US Social Security Number or ITIN, is 18 years or older, and has a government-issued photo ID is welcome to apply. 

I am not a U.S. citizen.  Can I apply for an auto loan? 

Anyone who has a US Social Security Number or ITIN, is 18 years or older, and has a government-issued photo ID is welcome to apply. 
Note: If applying with an ITIN, on the loan application, temporarily select U.S. Citizen and write a note explaining status. Your status will be adjusted once the application is submitted.

Application Status

How do I check the status of my application?

Once you submit your application, you will receive your own portal for communication with our team. To check the status of your application, click here. You will be required to provide your last name, the email address used on your application, and your Social Security Number or ITIN. You will be able to view the status of your loan, message with our team, and upload documents using this link. It's very important to use this link to respond to messages and provide requested documents.

When will I receive my funding confirmation?

On the same day the funds are sent, confirmation is emailed by 5pm Pacific Time

Documentation and Requirements

What do I do if I need to provide additional documentation for my loan request?

To to provide additional documentation, click here. You will be required to provide your last name, the email address used on your application, and your Social Security Number or ITIN. When logged in, select the arrow icon and follow the prompts to upload your documents to the respective loan or membership account application as requested.

Are there FICO score requirements to apply for an auto loan?

You must have a minimum FICO score of 600.

Can I find out if I would qualify for an auto loan before I apply? 

An online application will need to be completed and a credit check run before loan qualification can be determined. Please note: a minimum FICO score of 600 is required.  

Funding and Vehicle Information

How long will it take to receiving funding once my application is approved?

Once your final loan documents are signed and returned, funds will be wired or sent by check within 24 hours.

Are there any vehicle restrictions?

Vehicles must be 10 years or newer, have less than 150,000 miles, and may not be a commercial vehicle, motorcycle, ATV, or moped.

What can I expect when applying for a used or new vehicle?
  • First complete your loan/membership combination application online.
  • Once completed, within two business days you will receive a preliminary decision via email.
  • If you are not a current AdelFi member, please note, the membership appication is included in the online loan application. Once the application is submitted, you may be asked to provide further documentation for membership before funding can be completed. 
        -If you prefer to wait on membership, you can request (in the online application) that membership be contingent upon the approval of the loan. Once the loan is approved, the membership portion of the application will proceed to processing and you may be asked to provide further documentation before funding can be completed. 
         -Please note: You do NOT need to apply for membership separately from your loan application.
  • If the loan application is approved, you may be asked for further documentation such as proof of income.
  • Please see email notifications for requested documents, to check your application status, to upload documents, or to message AdelFi click here. 
  • Your preapproval letter locks in the approved rate for 30 days while you shop.
  • After selecting your vehicle, you will need to provide AdelFi with a copy of your purchase order.
    *Once all stipulations requested in email have been provided, loan documents will be sent for your signature.
  • Lastly, you will sign your documents.
  • A loan specialist will review your application and documents and contact you if anything else is needed before funding can be completed.
  • Funding will be sent directly to the dealer via wire transfer or check as requested.
  • Confirmation of wire transfers is sent to your email by 5pm (PT) on the same day the funds are sent. Checks are sent via courier. If you need an image of the check and tracking information, please let us know.
Pre-Approval

Understanding Pre-Approval

How does a preapproval letter work?

An AdelFi preapproval letter is good for 30 days while you shop. When you locate a vehicle, the dealer provides a temporary contract with the dealer’s rates and terms. You or the dealer may fax or Fed Ex the signed contract to AdelFi as well as any additional documentation. AdelFi will review it, and once approved, AdelFi provides a new contract with our rates and terms for you to sign. After signature is received, AdelFi notifies the dealer of the intent to fund so that the dealer can submit the DMV documents. When we receive the title, we mail a check directly to the dealer to pay off the existing contract, and this puts your contract with AdelFi into effect.

How long is a pre approval letter valid?

Pre Approvals are good for 30 days.

Modifying Pre-Approval Terms

Can I change my term?

Yes, however, the rate does change. You can request a quote and we will respond within 24 hours.

Can I change my amount?

You are approved for all amounts under your approved amount. For a higher amount, we will review your request and you will receive a response within 24 hours.

Membership

Membership Requirements

How do I qualify for membership? 

Just like all credit unions, to qualify for membership there must be a common bond. You can become an AdelFi member by agreeing with our statement of faith or if you have a family member that’s already banking with AdelFi.

Visit our Membership page to learn more and open your membership and accounts. If you are applying for an Auto Loan, you do not need to submit a separate application for membership. It is included with your loan application. It is processed separately and may require additional documents.

Is there a fee for membership? 

There is a one-time $5 membership fee, but we are currently paying that fee for our new members.

What are your current auto refinance rates?

What does “rates as low as” mean? 

Multiple factors are involved in reaching a decision on a rate offer. These include the applicant’s credit history, value of the car, debt to income ratio, and more. Loan rates “as low as” indicate the lowest possible rate available to a qualified individual with AdelFi at this time. 

How much loan can I afford? 

AdelFi offers an online Car Affordability Calculator you can use to help self-determine the loan amount for which you would like to apply. 

Loan Management

Which credit reporting agency do you use?

Adelfi uses Experian to run a credit check on Auto Loan applications. Adelfi reports to all three credit bureaus. 

When will I receive my auto loan statement?

Statements are mailed 18 days prior to your payment due date. 

When is my first payment due?

Your first payment is due 90 days after your loan contract begins.

How can I make a loan payment?

You can use any of the following methods:

  1. Set up Autopayments from an AdelFi deposit account or from an external account at another Finanical Institution by submitting a signed Authorization Agreement for Loan Payments (ACH Debits). 
  2. Transfer funds from another AdelFi account using online banking. 
  3. Transfer funds from an external account using online banking
  4. Send funds to AdelFi using Bill Pay at another financial institution with your AdelFi routing number, account number, and account type = loan
  5. Make a payment in person at a Shared Branch via check, cash, or another AdelFi account
  6. Send a check payment by U.S. mail (cash not accepted) to P.O. Box 1239 Brea, CA 92822
  7. Call AdelFi and request a one-time payment from another AdelFi account or from an external account by providing the external financial institution/bank name, routing number, and account number. 
Does my down payment affect the loan rate? 

No, it does not. 

Can I consolidate two auto loans and refinance with Adelfi?

While you cannot consolidate two auto loans, you can apply for two separate refinancing loans. 

Post-Loan Process

After Loan Completion

Once my auto loan is paid off, when can I expect my title?

The title is released approximately 10 days after receipt of the check. Please allow an additional 7-10 business days after that for shipping, but this ultimately depends upon your local mailing system.

I do not want to receive paper statements for my auto loan, can I go paperless?

Adelfi does not offer paperless loan statements at this time.
